Anecdotal Records and Report Cards
In order for teachers of young children to fully understand their students, it is important to keep records on a regular basis. In the rush of moment-to-moment activities, it is easy to lose track of developmental milestones and other important events. When there is a concern about a child’s development, having a written record becomes even more important.
Anecdotal notes are a type of record keeping in which a teacher or other adult in the classroom records a child’s actions, behaviors, verbalizations, learning style or process for a period of time. As opposed to a more subjective or interpretive type of record, this kind of documentation is strictly objective.
Anecdotal notes should be used to record the day-to-day development of students, as well as specific issues as they relate to each individual child. Some of these issues might include:
- Specific behaviors, especially those that are a cause for concern
- Speech patterns
- Language development
- Social/emotional development
- Peer interactions
Parent and teacher conferences will be held on President’s Day between the hours of 8:00am through 12:00pm and will give you the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress in the classroom including social and academic behavior.
One report card will be issued and delivered in September and another report card approximately one week before President's Day, to assess your child’s benchmarks and milestones which include their academic and social ability.

The Center’s philosophy has always been to provide a setting for pre-school age children that foster learning and acceptable social behavior in a loving and caring environment. Our teachers are carefully selected for their ability to relate to children in a positive way. We believe that learning can be fun and practice this at Precious People Learning Center through activities that utilize music, arts & crafts, self expression and creative free play.
The Center uses a spiral curriculum that is derived from a monthly theme that incorporates the number, color, shape and letter and carried out throughout the various age groups at their appropriate level. This provides consistency and uniformity for the children. Our curriculum will include four elements monthly, bi-weekly, and weekly depending on age group. The elements are defined as a number, color, shape, and letter introduced into circle time twice daily. Our circle time consists of the four elements, literacy, at least two finger plays, at least two flannel board stories and our monthly theme unit. Spanish is integrated daily into our curriculum.
